Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm

Last October I had the pleasure of photographing Susan Gibbs and Erin McCabe hard at work tending their flocks at Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm in MA.

Though their days in the field are long and strenuous, Susan and Erin kept me laughing so hard, it's a miracle any of the photos are in focus! I was so impressed by the strength of their caring for the animals and tried to capture images that reflect the deep bonds they have developed with their charges, as well as the details of their busy lives.

I returned home with dozens of fabulous images. Several of them can be seen in the new (May/June) issue of Hobby Farm Home magazine accompanying a great article about the origins and maintenance of MVFF, which is the first Yarn CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in America. It is an inspiring story and I highly recommend it.

In this and subsequent posts I will share some additional choice moments from that shoot, so you can join in the fun...and the love.

I came here by way of MVFF and love the pictures. Lovely!

AND, I also read your previous post re flunking Art History. I can't believe it! I did the same thing. Freshman year, didn't want to take the standard general ed art course, signed up for Art History, which the instructor said was intended for Art majors. I stayed anyway, stupid ego, and could not believe as we watched slide after slide of cathedrals for what seemed weeks. I didn't know enough to even be able to take meaningful notes.

It all comes back to me, the confusion and helplessness, the fear, the stunned knowledge that I was messing up and might get my first F in my first semester in college. Aargh.

Countryelvis4--Muchas Gracias.

I think we should plan a pilgrimage to the Hudson Valley branch of MVFF. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds gorgeous.

As far as tax season, well it's been, ummm...(dare I say it?) taxing. (How well you know! And Erin too!)

Hi Anonymous,

Glad you like the photos.

It's great to find out that someone else had a similar experience with freshman Art History, though I am sorry to have brought back bad memories!

I'll post some happy sheep and goat pictures soon to drive the bad vibes away....
